After our first successful year at Green Dog Academy we have decided to change the way we interact with your dog(s). The reason for this is to accommodate to all those who have asked, we are now incorporating more socialization as well as continuing our puppy friday's. The main goal will be to form groups for the dogs to interact with that will make them feel more at ease. The way to do that is to get them with dogs that match their personality/play style or just to get them around other stable minded dogs. Dog’s understand each other and genuinely want harmony in a pack setting. By following other dog’s who model good behavior this will help alleviate anxieties as well as some reactivity issues.
Since we will be adding more socialization it does not mean we will no longer work on teaching your dog how to listen with distractions. In fact quite the opposite; because they will learn to make better decisions when dealing with the distractions of the pack as well as developing better social skills. The play groups we will supervise will be small groups making it easier to give each dog opportunities to be recognized for good behavior. With socializing dog’s we know what to look for when it comes to how the dog’s respond to playing with each other. There is such a thing as good play and bad play and we want to teach your dog’s what the difference is!
What is a Dog Dayschool?:
It is an environment where you can drop your dog off for the day, while having a professional dog trainer/behavioral specialist providing the fundamentals for your dog to learn and live a fulfilled life. We understand that most dog owners want the best for their dog and that usually involves training or socialization. However, that can be quite time consuming and we understand there are only so many hours in the day. This is why we want to be able to work with and teach your dog how to be a better family member. Dog’s need clear communication, social interaction, physical exercise, and mental exercise to satisfy their everyday needs. At the Dayschool we will be covering all four fundamentals daily in our routine. This is done by rewarding good behaviors with praise or food and teaching the dogs what we as humans want. We will teach the dog’s to make better choices through social situations as well as training exercises. Every moment with a dog is an opportunity to teach them our language and how to build a better relationship.
How we compare to other Dog Daycares:
Dog Daycare’s tend to have high dog to employee ratios. At the Dayschool we will have a very low dog to trainer ratio and each dog will be getting plenty of individual attention. We will also be accommodating to each dog's personality and temperament. By analyzing them behaviorally we can help them excell socially. Another reason we are not a Daycare is that we teach the dog’s constantly to teach them how to make better decisions. Dog’s interact with humans everyday but some do not know how to act appropriately and many dogs learn bad habits from the other dog's around them.
How old does my dog have to be to attend The Dayschool?:
We take puppies that are at least 8 weeks old and up. We do take older dogs because believe it or not, we still have plenty we can teach them. Puppies can also attend The Dayschool during the week as well, so they can get more individual attention and obedience training, if that is your priority. We recommend puppies come to Puppy Fridays because of all the activities we provide for them.
Amount of Dogs:
The initial number of dogs per day will only be ten, so that we can provide each dog with plenty of individual attention. However as the Dayschool grows we will accomodate to reasonable numbers for our play groups. We will also state on our facebook page if we are full. The amount of dogs that will be together will vary depending on the dog's we have and who is getting along. Our goal is to have a low trainer to dog ratio.
Scheduling:
The way we will be scheduling is on an appointment based reservation. That way when you call or email to schedule, we can let you know if the Dayschool is full. We will accept drop-ins if you call ahead of time so that we have space for you and your dog. We will be open Monday through Friday from 6:30am - 6:00pm.
**If your dog is new to Green Dog Academy's Dayschool,
we ask that you call ahead of time to schedule
a drop off day for your dog to come by.***
Drop off and Pick up Times:
Drop Off - 6:30am - 8:30am
Pick Up - 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Health Requirements:
The health requirements that we state are that the dogs must have all of their core vaccinations for: Parvovirus, Canine Hepatitis, Distemper and Rabies. We also require our clients to get the Bordetella vaccination to combat Kennel Cough. We highly recommend that you consider having your dog’s Bordetella vaccination done biannually to protect him/her as well as their playmates. We will be ventilating, sanitizing and disinfecting everyday to combat the virus. In case of an outbreak, we would quarantine our facility and close until the proper alloted time. We will require a copy of your dog’s vet records so please plan to bring them with you. We can make copies
if needed.
Green Dog Academy is now offering a Board + Train program. Our program includes 3 weeks of boarding with multiple training sessions per day. Your dog’s training sessions will be geared specifically towards what we decide together will benefit you and your dog the most. Dogs need 3 things every day to live a fulfilled life: mental stimulation, physical stimulation and most importantly, clear communication. Every dog was originally bred for a job, allow me the opportunity to determine what your dog needs to be fulfilled. In one on one play sessions, I will help build your dog’s drive for toys and then teach them control when they are in that state of drive. It is important when they are playing with you and a toy that they play appropriately. This program can be a huge benefit to any and every dog! There are no breed or size restrictions; however we do ask that your pup is a minimum of 6 months old.
Outlined below are some examples of the types of training we can offer. Prior to your dog graduating from our program we will ask that you come in a few days in a row for an hour or two, so we can transfer our training techniques to you and your dog:
